We have emergency funds available to help Alabama renters pay rent and utility bills (including past due rent and utilities), subject to applicable requirements detailed at www.eraalabama.com. To begin the process for determining your eligibility, please review each of the options below to determine which one is most suitable for your current situation:

Option #1

AHFA Funded Properties

Do you currently live in an Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA)-funded property?

If you live in one of these properties, you may be eligible for a reduced application processing timeframe based on streamlined documentation and eligibility requirements, per Treasury guidelines.

Please take the completed documentation to your landlord and/or property management company to start the official application process.

Option #2

Alabama Continuum of Care for the Homeless (ARCH)

Do you currently live in one of the counties served by the Alabama Rural Coalition for the Homeless (ARCH)? ARCH has entered into a partnership agreement with AHFA to provide targeted outreach for rental and utility assistance to rural counties served by both organizations.

If you live in one of these counties, you may be eligible for a reduced application processing timeframe based on streamlined documentation and eligibility requirements, per Treasury guidelines.

Option #3

Emergency Rental Assistance Alabama online application

If the above options do not apply to you, verify that you do not live in one of the following areas with their own local emergency rental assistance programs:

  • Baldwin County
  • Jefferson County
  • Madison County
  • Mobile County
  • Montgomery County
  • Tuscaloosa County
  • City of Birmingham
  • City of Huntsville.

If you do not live in one of these areas, you may qualify for assistance through ERA Alabama.
